Petersburg Is Growing is excited to offer a free and donation-based pumpkin pickup service throughout the greater Petersburg area. By collecting your unwanted pumpkins, we’re creating new ways to nurture our farm, support sustainability, and reduce waste in our community. Think of it as a local farm pumpkin donation!
How We’re Putting Leftover Pumpkins to Good Use at the Farm:
- Saving Seeds for Next Season: Every pumpkin is packed with seeds we can save, dry, and plant next year. With your donations, we’re able to grow even more pumpkins right here on the farm, supporting our seasonal programs and keeping the community involved year-round.
- Cooking Up Fresh Pumpkin Pies: Many people don’t realize how delicious fresh pumpkin can be! With your pumpkins, we can whip up wholesome, homemade pumpkin pies and other dishes for our community events and food programs.
- Natural Chicken Feed: Our chickens love fresh pumpkin, and it’s a nutritious treat for them! Feeding pumpkins to our chickens helps us offset feed costs and gives them a healthy, seasonal boost.
- Creating Organic Compost: Pumpkins break down quickly and are perfect for composting. By turning them into compost, we enrich our soil, support our crops, and ensure a thriving farm ecosystem.
- Crafting DIY Bird Feeders: Hollowed-out pumpkins can be transformed into natural bird feeders. With just a few modifications, creative pumpkins become a great addition to our farm, attracting local wildlife and creating an educational experience for visitors.
